The national Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) is committed to the sustainable utilization of our marine resources. In order to ensure that only legal and sustainable seafood is imported into South Africa, the DAFF requires that all seafood products be accompanied by a valid Import Permit.
It is the responsibility of the importer to obtain the correct import permit prior to the arrival of the shipment in South Africa. The application for a seafood import permit must be submitted to the DAFF at least 21 days prior to the date of arrival of the shipment.

Permits are granted for a specific product and quantity, and are only valid for the period stipulated on the permit. The permit must be presented to Customs upon arrival of the shipment in South Africa.
